Practicality, sustainability and heritage are the distinguishing features of the new Spring/Summer 2022 collections.

 

 

Fashion is the most accurate social thermometer, which is even more true of the Spring/Summer 2022 fashion shows that are once again being attended in person.

 

Colours in daring pastels are returning to many collections, and logos are reappearing and becoming patterns, as in the latest Versace show. Sequins, stoles, taffetas, minidresses and floral patterns allude to glamor.

 

Practicality, now a prerequisite, just like sustainability, nods at ostentation and embraces glitter. Heritage remains a source of inspiration, and there are also hints of the roaring ‘20s. Many creatives also look to subcultures to offer collections that allow you to express a more personal style.

 

After lockdowns forced us to remain at home, we are invited to “go out and reconquer the world”, which is the official headline of L'Officiel, the glossy magazine and bible of fashion trends. In our clothing we are urged to show our personalities and rediscover the allure even of being “overdressed”.

 

The paramount concept, as Tod’s Diego della Valle argues, “is to be able to produce desirable pieces. Everything, communication, storytelling, fashion shows, events and retail must aim to strengthen brands. Shops remain fundamental, because they remain a delight for consumers and should always be places where one goes to make discoveries”.

 

The main players in the fashion sector agree on our need to rediscover dreams and beauty, and offer durable garments that excite. And they predict the emergence of more selective shopping that prefers quality ​​and style that last over time and doesn’t merely respond to the need to constantly own something new.

 

Beppe Angiolini, owner of the famous Sugar brand from Arezzo, invites us “to buy again, but with emotion”.
