Below are the highlights of some of the upcoming exhibitions around the world. Because, as confirmed by the most influential trendsetters, the source of inspiration for future fashion and design trends are the exhibitions of major international museums, along with blockbuster films.
Alex Katz - Guggenheim - New York
From October 23, 2022 through February 2023
In New York, the Guggenheim is dedicating a major exhibit curated by Katherine Brinson, to Alex Katz, one of the most important living artists who was born in 1927 in Brooklyn to Russian parents. The exhibit features his most iconic portraits, inspired by film and photography. “Portraits are a challenge for me,” said Katz. “It’s about making contemporary paintings in the form of a portrait. I choose to paint subjects that can represent a type, a genre. Subjects that belong to my history and my life. People, friends, artists, poets, landscapes, trees...they are a way of looking at what is contemporary.” His is an acute look at the present, nourished by memories and visions.
Danh Vo - Bourse de Commerce Pinault Collection - Paris / “Suzanne Valadon. Un monde à soi” - Centre Pompidou - Metz

In Paris, Danh Vo’s solo exhibition opens at the Bourse de Commerce Pinault Collection, tracing his history between Vietnam, Denmark and Berlin with a garden project that integrates nature and culture. At the Centre Pompidou in Metz, France, curated by director Chiara Parisi, a major exhibition "Suzanne Valadon. Un monde à soi" will open featuring portraits, still lifes and original and visionary paintings.
Studio Gang - Richard Gilder center for Science - New York
Also in New York on the Upper West Side, the new Studio Gang-designed wing of the Natural History Museum will be opening at the Richard Gilder Center for Science.
Wangechi Mutu - New Museum - New York
From March 2 to June 4, 2023
The New Museum is dedicating a solo exhibit to Nairobi-based African American artist Wangechi Mutu who lives in Brooklyn and works on cultural contamination through painting, collage, sculpture and installations that intertwine to tell the story of her country’s present.
Hilma Af Klint and Piet Mondrian - Tate Modern - London
April 2023
In London, the Tate Modern will be featuring an encounter between two artists, Hilma af Klint and Piet Mondrian with works on abstraction as an inquiry into the natural world.
Doris Salcedo - Beyeler Foundation - Switzerland
June 2023
The Foundation Beyeler will be hosting a major retrospective devoted to Colombian artist Doris Salcedo.
“You, Me and the Balloons” Yayoi Kusama - MIF (Manchester International) - Manchester
June 2023
At the end of June, Manchester International Festival will be opening a new exhibition space with an installation by Yayoi Kusama, You Me and the Balloons, a 10 meter-high immersive space distinguished by a polka-dot pattern.
James Lee Byars - Milan - Hangar Bicocca
