REPORTAGE: Verner Panton by Cristina Morozzi
The exhibition dedicated to the visionary Danish designer Verner Panton, which can be visited at 64th White street in New York, has an extensive focus on lighting.
For the 20th anniversary of its first exhibition in 2001, R & Company Gallery dedicated an exhibition to Verner Panton, showing 50 objects collected over three years of research. The exhibition will be open until the end of January of this year at 64th White street.
The exhibition focuses on the light fixtures Panton designed over his career and that include 12 famous designs, among which the “Ball Lamp” series in coloured plastic with fun shapes.
The exhibition is contextualized with a display including little-known rugs and textiles, a rare sofa from a series created for Thonet, and the S chair. The exhibition aims to underscore how, since starting his career in 1950, Panton worked with rounded forms and bright colors, creating a highly recognisable style that has influenced the world of design.
“Panton,” says Evan Snyderman, owner of the gallery, “wanted to create objects that would inspire and excite people. I have been very impressed by the numbers of people who have been attracted to Panton’s unique approach, which is so fitting”.
