Contemporary Design in Milan
The week-long Salone del Mobile in June was a highly anticipated event, and now that it is over, people still can’t stop talking about it. Many brands that attended used the event as an opportunity to present new collections or reissues that highlight trends in contemporary design.
Modular and sustainable designs
During the week of Fuorisalone, design companies’ showrooms were a space where visitors had the opportunity to discover the latest design trends. The various themes included the increasingly pressing importance of sustainability and that of functionality.Cassina presented The Cassina Perspective 2022 which includes both new and consolidated collaborations. One of the featured projects was that with Virgil Abloh which led to the creation of Modular Imagination, which best expresses a major trend in contemporary design: that of modularity and the need for functional furniture. The same concept can be found in sofa Esosoft, created by designer Antonio Citterio and in an eye-catching green. Sicis also expanded on its Sicis Home Collection 2022 with modular systems Zeno and Botero which it presented at the Salone del Mobile.
Poltrona Frau is celebrating its 110th anniversary and is keeping the True Evolution Collection on display. New pieces include Pelle Frau® Impact Less leather which is tanned with chrome-free components, minimum use of water, and a large reduction of chemicals.
