Como and the silk district: a story in the history of textile.
Just say silk and it immediately reminds us of light foulards caressing the skin, such as those selected by Design Italy. Many varieties of silk fabrics, from the manufacturing district of Como, have made Italy famous worldwide since the 18th Century: taffeta, organza, chiffon, damask, brocade and duchesse.

Known as the Glass Island, Murano is worldwide famous for a craftsmanship process which has linked the Made in Italy to the art of making everyday glass objects, since the Middle Ages to the present day. Vases, glasses, lamps and home décor in general, turn into works of art thanks to the fantasy of master glassmakers.

The very first eyewear company was set up in 1878 in Calalzo di Cadore, near Belluno. Since then, Veneto’s district alone has been able to account for 70% of the whole global mid-range and high-end eyewear industry and control 50% of the global production of licensed big fashion brands. Still, this wonderful expertise has also its roots in Southern Italy.
