Actualmente disponible en solo un tamaño, la mesa baja Rio fue creada originalmente por Charlotte Perriand como dos.
Entre 1962, el año en que diseñó la pieza, y 1967, Charlotte Perriand hizo una versión más grande destinada a la embajada japonesa en París. La belleza inusual de la mesa Rio, combinada con su funcionalidad, la convierte en una verdadera obra de arte. Los seis segmentos, hechos de madera maciza, cada uno con un radio diferente, desfasados entre sí, crean un borde exterior dentado, mientras que el agujero en el centro evoca un centro de gravedad.
Cassina reeditó la versión original en 1962, reproduciendo las líneas originales, gracias también a las extraordinarias habilidades artesanales de los artesanos de Meda, una localidad en la zona de Brianza al norte de Milán.
