View allDESIGN ITALY EDITORIAL by Cristina Morozzi: "Things"
"Things are a collection of stories, memories, smells, affections, transitions, memories", as Chiara Alessi writes in her recent book "So many dear things, the objects that changed our lives." (Longanesi, 2021).
Objects, without distinction, change our lives.
In design, those icons that can be defined as everlasting remind us of a part of our story. The history of Italian design, whose origins dates back to the fifties, is full of icons which today are re-proposed, thanks to a re-publishing policy, initiated by companies that, in times of uncertainty such as the current one, prefer to invest in safe values.
The longevity of icons shall not be attributed to a nostalgic feeling but rather to the quality of the projects. The relevance of their functions and the originality of their shapes made them immune to the passing of time.
To some extent, these objects have facilitated our lives as serviceable companions. The vast repertoire reveals how designers have always looked beyond obstacles to anticipate changes, giving shape to objects that ultimately allowed us to live better.
As Design Italy trusts Italian design values, it offers numerous icons signed by famous designers, such as Philippe Starck, Gio Ponti, Alessandro Mendini and Studio 65. Their value, as confirmed by the auctions, is destined to consolidate and grow.
