REPORTAGE: Mudec Museum Exhibition "Going Away" by Cristina Morozzi

The Mudec museum in Milan reopened after the first lockdown with a new exhibition «Going away». A tribute to Grazia Deledda, dedicated to a collective textile work of art.

Conceived by Giuditta Sireus and supported by the autonomous region of Sardinia, the project involves twenty-five Sardinian textile companies to enhance the last of Maria Lai’s public works. The latter was realized in 2011 near the Church of Solitude of Nuoro, where the remains of Grazia Deledda, Nobel prize winner for literature, are kept.

Starting from the original drawings of the monument, preserved in the archive of Maria Lai, the weavers reproduced the facades of the eleven pillars that make up the monument. Each of the 22 tapestries is a unique work, made with manual frames, by skilled weavers. The exhibition «Going away» belongs to the cycle of exhibitions dedicated by the Mudec museum to the deepening of weaving in the various cultures.
