View allTRENDS: Pantone's 2022 Color of the Year by Cristina Morozzi
The Color of the Year 2022 elected by the Pantone Institute is Very Peri, a color that launches an inclination towards positivity and invites to dare.
The Pantone Color Institute created the hue Very Peri – a blue-violet relative of periwinkle – to be the brand new 2022 Color of the Year. “We have a new colour for the first time”, said Laurie Pressman, vice-president of the Institute, who stressed that the unusual choice is an invitation to reflect on innovation and transformation.
According to Michel Pastoureau, an anthropologist, colour expert, and author of the book Il piccolo libro dei colori (Little Book of Colours), blue is a controversial colour, difficult to obtain, and appeared late in iconography. It’s also no coincidence that paintings of the Virgin Mary depict her wearing a blue veil. Over time, blue took on different meanings, for example in France as the colour of the Republicans. “Today”, says Pastoureau, “to say one loves blue is to side with the good people”.
But in the fashion world, there are those who haven’t exactly jumped on the bandwagon of this new trending colour. This includes youthful French brand Jacquemus, which just launched its “Pink 2” entirely pink clothing and accessories collection, created in collaboration with artists. In terms of furnishings, both Very Peri and pink present their own set of challenges, although perhaps they can be seen as an invitation to move away from neutral shades and to opt for more colour.
In any case, Very Peri and pink are poised to lead the way towards positive thinking and are an invitation to be daring, especially with furnishings and accessories.
