THE BLOG#8 - MILANO by Antonella Dedini

There are cities of evident grandeur that open themselves up to everyone with generous beauty and others that remain secret, craving to be discovered, like Milan. Balancing between ancient and contemporary architecture, it has always been the capital of design because its innate ability to handle modernity keeps its citizens forever tourists and curious in their "infinite city."

The urban dimension seamlessly merges with the culture of fashion and, above all, design because it's the city of renowned architects and designers like Franco Albini, Gio Ponti, Achille Castiglioni, Cini Boeri, Enzo Mari, Bruno Munari, Ettore Sottsass, Marco Zanuso, Vico Magistretti, Gae Aulenti, Alessandro Mendini, Mario Bellini, just to name a few of the greats who have contributed the most significant objects to history.

Also noteworthy is Patricia Urquiola, a Spaniard by birth but a Milanese by adoption, who is a contemporary figure. It's important to remember that Milan Design Week represents the world's most important design event and one of Milan's creative and economic driving forces, in a unique synergy between the fair and the city, companies, and designers, unlike anywhere else in the world. Living in Milan today means being in a truly innovative, exciting, fast-paced, super-efficient, and intercultural metropolis, yet still human in scale.
