DESIGN TRENDS - USEFUL HOME ACCESSORIES
by Cristina Morozzi

Being forced to stay at home helped us rediscover the pleasure of the foregone concept of taking care of and upkeeping things.

"Feeling at home", writes artist Alessandra Spranzi, is a feeling that relates more to those gestures necessary to upkeep of things rather than the things themselves. "I sweep, and therefore I am," writes Michele Serra in Italian newspaper Repubblica regarding 'forced house cleaning'. The concept was borrowed from the title of the book by Clara Sereni (Einaudi, Turin, 1987), finding the humor in the sudden changes in our lives.

We've gone back to housekeeping, as in the past, when women used to work at home. Tiding up, throwing away the superfluous, and rearranging things.

Must-Have Home Accessories, those furnishing accessories that have specific functions, are back to making a splash. Pieces like valet stands to arrange clothes to wear the next day; desks to for reading, writing, and using our laptops; and modular and convertible furnishings that adapt based on our various needs.
