DESIGN TRENDS - USEFUL HOME ACCESSORIES by Cristina Morozzi

Spending time at home allows us to reconnect with the simple joy of caring for and maintaining our space, reminding us of the value of caring for things.

"Feeling at home", writes artist Alessandra Spranzi, is a feeling that relates more to those gestures necessary to upkeep of things rather than the things themselves. "I sweep, and therefore I am," writes Michele Serra in the Italian newspaper Repubblica regarding 'forced house cleaning'. The concept was borrowed from the title of the book by Clara Sereni (Einaudi, Turin, 1987), finding the humour in the sudden changes in our lives.

We've gone back to housekeeping. Tidying up, throwing away the superfluous, and rearranging things.

Must-Have Home Accessories, those furnishing accessories with specific functions, are making a comeback. Pieces like valet stands to organise clothes for the next day, desks for reading, writing, and using laptops, and modular and convertible furnishings that adapt to our various needs.
