TREND:
Italian design: creativity cultivated in the regions, nourished by local traditions and innovation
By Cristina Morozzi
Design Italy presents Italian design: creativity cultivated in the regions, nourished by local traditions and innovation. A varied repertoire of typologies and aesthetics tells of a special style, the Italian style, which originated in the 1950s from the partnership between the designers who wanted to change the world and the furniture companies that cultivated the craftsmanship of the founding fathers.
The variety of Italian style stems from our political geography, made up of municipalities and seignories that involved the artists of the time to design even table furnishings. For example, Florentine Benvenuto Cellini and the Medici family were instrumental in shaping the style.
The 2024 Design Week has changed its topography to make visits more rational. Also, the Fuori Salone presented a calendar full of events in new locations, such as the former Slaughterhouse, and new districts, such as Porta Venezia, the Incoronata Humanities Library and the Manzoni House. In the latter, the ground floor was transformed into the House of Wonders.
Design Italy offers a special selection of proposals signed by well-known designers. These include the 16 Pesci by Enzo Mari produced by Danese Milano, the magazine rack by Poltrona Frau designed by Neri&Hu, the Radiofonografo by Brionvega,
the Feltri armchair by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina, Toki by Setsu and Shinobu Ito for Fiam, the Molletta bench by Riva 1920, and the Serpente lamp by Martinelli luce.
A "stroll" through the site offers a variety of proposals for designer furniture and accessories to update interiors, while comfortably sitting on the sofa at home.
