The Year of Light

The MAG - 04.23

By Cristina Morozzi

At a press conference on February 15, 2023, presented by Linus at Teatro Franco Parenti, the new features of Milan Design Week 2023 (Salone del Mobile) from April 18–23 were announced to insiders.

The focus will be on light with the new layout of Euroluce, designed by studio Lombardini 22: a ring-shaped path, interspersed with installations and spaces dedicated to cultural events entrusted to the curatorship of Beppe Finessi. There will be an unprecedented work of light signals by artist Maurizio Nannucci. Aurore, the events arena, will bear the signature of Formafantasma, which was also commissioned to design the twelve constellations, curated by Beppe Finessi, and the bookshop run by Corraini editions.

Four other complementary exhibitions, entrusted to as many authors, will complete the program. These include a retrospective on lamps with an installation curated by Ricardo Bello Dias, and a show of photographs by Helene Binet. The talk schedule, curated by Annalisa Rosso, will feature talks by Shigeru Ban, Nao Tamura, the founders of Sonetta studio and Mad Architects, among others. The Euroluce space will feature a bistro and restaurant, designed by Piero Lissoni. Salone Satellite, now in its 24th edition, with as many as 550 young people joining, will feature the special participation of Gaetano Pesce. The jury of the Salone Satellite award ceremony will be chaired by Paola Antonelli, curator of MoMA in New York. Exhibitions and events will “shine a light” on international design returning to Milan.
