FontanaArte

FontanaArte, named after its founder Luigi Fontana, was founded in 1881 and originally manufactured sheets of glass for the construction industry. At the end of the 19th century, the company began developing sophisticated glass furnishing objects.

The company's attendance at the Milan International Fair proved to be a key event for the company, which was admired by Vittorio Emanuele III and Queen Elena, who commissioned several works.

In 1931, Gio Ponti, an eclectic personality and one of the protagonists of the cultural debate of those years, was appointed as the company's artistic director.Gio Ponti decided it was time to boost Luigi Fontana's line of prestigious furnishing accessories and invited Pietro Chiesa to join him in being at the helm of the company's art direction. Chiesa was a distinguished glass master who enlisted the craftsmen from his own workshop to join him.

It was a short leap to launching FontanaArte, a new division with a mission to develop products with a more artisanal feel, ranging from stained glass to limited series of furnishing and lighting accessories.Over the years, numerous international and nationally renowned designers have collaborated with FontanaArte and created special decorative and lighting objects that have become iconic for the company.

Today, FontanaArte is part of ItalianCreationGroup, a holding company whose goal is to create a specialised Home Design and Luxury Lifestyle centre. Since 2018, the creative director is the young and esteemed architect and designer Francesco Librizzi.
