BURI is a solid ash wood chair designed by Mario Scairato for InternoItaliano, combining a linear wooden frame with a seat entirely hand-woven in paper cord. Inspired by a traditional chair from the Friuli region, familiar in Italian homes and restaurants, BURI revisits an everyday design through carefully considered details and craftsmanship.
The simple backrest connects with the vertical elements of the frame to create a clear, understated profile. Against the solid wood, the woven paper cord introduces a contrasting texture, giving BURI its distinctive combination of structure and hand-worked detail.
Frame and Seat Combinations
BURI comes in five combinations. Four pair a natural-coloured paper cord seat with different frame finishes; the all-black version combines a black frame with black paper cord.
- Coffee frame / Natural paper cord: a brown-toned frame contrasted with the lighter woven seat.
- Natural frame / Natural paper cord: a coordinated palette of wood and natural-coloured cord.
- Black frame / Natural paper cord: a dark frame that emphasises the lighter colour and texture of the seat.
- Red frame / Natural paper cord: a colourful frame balanced by a neutral woven seat.
- Black frame / Black paper cord: a tonal, all-black interpretation, with the woven texture bringing detail to the monochrome composition.
