The PONTI 969 design by Gio Ponti is a re-design of the original chair launched at the VI Triennale in Milan in 1936.
This piece is a superb example of the classical aspiration of Ponti’s style, whereby individual elements come together to form a unique piece. The backrest’s twisting pattern is a tribute to adornment that becomes a structural element, the cross-section underneath the seat plays on symmetry and creates tension between the expected and unexpected, and the triangular legs flare at the top and bottom.
The chair is available in solid beech wood, in a natural beech finish, stained walnut or white or black lacquer; it has a curved plywood back and seat upholstered in leather, faux leather or fabric.
