Wonderfuls

I use a neologism to address a theme that concerns the style of contemporary design productions.

The forced pause imposed by Covid has clipped the wings of imagination, leaving a vague fear of daring. It's better to rely on common sense, dedicating oneself to the reasonable and useful. However, I believe it is worth rediscovering the courage to amaze. I therefore revive the title "The Wonders" from an exhibition I curated in 1991 dedicated to objects and furnishings at the Milan Fair, when it was still in Piazza Giulio Cesare, for an event called "My Home," open to the public, promoted at the time by Gexpo.

In the Design Italy catalog, you will find classics such as Gio Ponti's D154.2 armchair for Molteni, or the Depsa, also by Gio Ponti for BBBItalia, as well as the Giraffe with its long neck holding the chandelier from the "magical design" of Qeeboo; the classic design of Molteni, a historic Italian design company, and the playful design of the Qeeboo brand, created by Stefano Giovannoni, a representative of narrative design, who argued in the volume published by Sole 24ore cultura in April 2023, "Narrative Design Between Imagination and Figuration." There are pieces in natural materials such as cork and objects and ornaments in resin signed by Gaetano Pesce and the Brazilian Campana brothers, presented by Corsi design.

Fashion accessories are not lacking, such as handcrafted scarves and shawls from the Adima brand inspired by sunsets reflected in lake waters, and silver and gold jewelry, such as Camilla Carli's Panther ring or the 925 silver Arco necklace by Afra&Tobia Scarpa for San Lorenzo.
