SCOLLAMENTI TEMPORALI 5 is a paper collage handcrafted in Italy by Giulio Ceppi.
Collage made by fragments from fashion advertising and "Angelica and Antonio Mongez's portrait" by Jacques-Louis David.
The series dedicated to the French painter Jacques-Louis David, portraitist of the great protagonists of the Napoleonic era, plays on the alternating orthogonality of the cuts between two images, creating ambiguous and composite figures, ironically suspended between the past and the contemporary.
In this diptych, Giulio Ceppi juxtaposes sections of the two prints so that the physicality of the bodies in the painting contrast and blend with the models shown in the advertising piece.
The artist employs an innovative method to simultaneously display two different works from very different periods in time. A combination of historical art with contemporary advertising that intermingles to form a single, harmonious piece.
This one-of-a-kind work was signed by the artist in 2017 and shown at Triennale di Milano in 2018.
