It was in 1963 that Bodil Kjaer designed a family of four vases featuring contours and decorations reminiscent of the architectural elements of building facades.
In partnership with the Danish designer, Cassina revisits the largest Skyscraper vase and puts it back into production. In this re-edition, architecture is still the key feature and the sculptural shape of the vase is achieved through a particularly complex process requiring excellent artisan skills.
Skyscraper is made of transparent glass mechanically pressed into a cast-iron mould to create the shape of a building, an extremely arduous process, given the considerable thickness of the glass. Furthermore, to recreate the architectural details of Skyscraper, the glass must be processed at extremely high temperatures to make it as fluid as possible so it can adhere to the shape of the mould.
