SCOLLAMENTI TEMPORALI 1 is a paper collage handcrafted in Italy by Giulio Ceppi.
The series dedicated to French painter Jacques-Louis David, a portrait of the great protagonists of the Napoleonic era, plays on the alternating orthogonality of the cuts between two images, creating ambiguous and composite figures, ironically suspended between past and present.
In the "Portrait of Count Françoise de Nantes" the intervention of the collage generates a hybrid figure in which the image of the French noble contaminates and completes with that of a model, using the pose that characterizes both bodies.
In this diptych, Giulio Ceppi juxtaposes sections of the two prints so that the physicality of the bodies in the painting contrast but also blend with the models shown in the piece of advertising.
The artist employs an innovative method to simultaneously display two different works from very different periods in time. A combination of historical art with contemporary advertising that intermingles to form a single, harmonious piece.
This one-of-a-kind work was signed by the artist in 2017 and shown at Triennale di Milano in 2018.
