DESIGN ITALY PRESENTS

WHEN MATERIALS MEETS DESIGN AT THE MILAN FUORISALONE

Design Italy is a digital marketplace that was founded by Roberto Ferrari and showcases luxury Italian design. For the Fuorisalone event from September 4 to 10, 2021, the company will present La materia diventa Design (When Material Meets Design) at its headquarters in Milan (12 Via Vincenzo Monti). Those interested can also see designer objects outside nearby restaurant Zakuro and L'Alter Bar. The works on display will have a common theme of sustainability. Throughout the week, in the Stanza dei Mestieri (literally, the Craft Room) conceptual space, artists will have the chance to show visitors their work and describe their interpretation of the concept of material.

DESIGNERS ON DESIGN ITALY’S PLATFORM

BBB ITALIA

BBB Italia was founded in 1949 and seeks a connection between experimentation and tradition. Their catalog includes Gio Ponti’s chair 940 in a new Resysta version.

The special Resysta material, made from rice husks and durable and fireproof, seems and feels like wood.

CALIU MILANO

Caliu Milano was founded in 2018 by Gemma Margalef Soldevila, who handcrafts lampshades from sustainable and recyclable materials. The lampshades are customizable, and you can choose your shape color. Caliu uses recycled iron for the frame and recyclable Scottish yarn and wool for the lampshade surface. Gemma Margalef Soldevila will be making her lampshades on September 8 in the Stanza dei Mestieri.

CATERINA CREPAX

Caterina Crepax is an interior designer and is the daughter of well-known comics artist Guido Crepax. She creates luxurious, sophisticated paper clothes.

She takes inspiration from the animal and plant world, but also from architectural decorations. She also creates hats, corsets and various accessories to decorate dresses, especially corsets. She also makes paper sculptures created by layering tissue paper and vinyl glue on mannequins which are often illuminated.

Her work will be on display on September 6 in the Stanza dei Mestieri.

CYRCUS DESIGN

Cyrcus Design was founded by Denis Santachiara and offers sustainable solutions. It uses fine materials including gold, silver, marble, and steel, through the use of 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC. These techniques make it possible to produce a few unique and different pieces that cost the same as mass-produced industrial products. Each product can be customized in terms of size, materials and finish.

A large laser-cut aluminum sheet used to make 363 pieces (Eura chairs, candlesticks, pot holders, homewares) will be on display.

DYGODESIGN

DygoDesign creates sculptural pieces varying from classical forms and futuristic and abstract lines. They are made through fused deposition modeling, which is an advanced three-dimensional printing system. Each product can be customized. The material used is corn and will be displayed in its various forms of processing.

INVENTOOM

Inventoom was founded by designer Giuseppe Mazzardi. The objects are handmade, and the materials used are reclaimed wood, iron and other natural materials.

Live on September 7 in the Stanza dei Mestieri, Giuseppe Mazzardi will create one of his paintings made of dice.

LESSMORE

Lessmore was founded by architect and designer Giorgio Caporaso and it creates furnishing accessories made of recycled and recyclable cardboard.

On September 4, Caporaso will be in the Stanza dei Mestieri, where he can be found at work.

LOREDANA GIULIOLI

Loredana Giulioli experiments with contemporary forms of illustration through free motion machine embroidery: an embroidery technique performed freehand with a sewing machine. The fabric then becomes a canvas and the stitching a work of art.

She can be seen at work on September 5 in the Stanza dei Mestieri.

OTQ DESIGN

OTQ Design is an innovative idea that mixes tradition and the design ambitions of designer Matteo Congiu, who is interested in the relationship between craftsmanship and new technologies.

On display is a bed made entirely of cork.

SUBER

In 2019, the Italian subsidiary of cork producer Amorim Cork made 614 million corks. But it also recycled some. Thus Suber, , the first line of designs made from cork salvaged from Amorim Cork’s recycling, was created.

Stools, reminiscent of sparkling wine corks, tables, shelves, displays, lamps, umbrella stands, buckets, and coat racks are some of the objects produced.
